Site des Mégalithes de Locmariaquer

    Route de Kerlogonan
    56740 Locmariaquer

Origin and history

The site of the Megalithes de Locmariaquer is a monument located in the municipality of the same name in Brittany. This archaeological site consists of several megalithic structures, including menhirs and dolmens, characteristic of the prehistoric period. These remains attest to an ancient human occupation and a complex social organization, although the precise details of their construction and use remain partially unknown.

In the Breton region, megaliths such as those of Locmariaquer were often linked to funeral, religious or astronomical practices. These monuments played a central role in the life of Neolithic communities, serving as landmarks in the landscape and gathering places. Their presence reflects the importance of the region in European prehistory, although the available sources do not allow for further clarification of their specific history.
