Site of the former church (Box C 107): inscription by order of 2 October 1991
Origin and history
The site of the former church of Poigny is a medieval monument located in the Seine-et-Marne department, in the Île-de-France region. This place, now extinct as a building but still identifiable, was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 2 October 1991. It is located precisely at the 2 Chemin du Moulin in Foulon, on the cadastre C 107, and belongs to the commune of Poigny.
The remains of this church recall the importance of religious buildings in the Middle Ages, when they served as a spiritual, social and sometimes economic centre for local communities. In Île-de-France, as in other regions, medieval churches were often gathering points, marking the landscape and daily life of the inhabitants. Their partial or total disappearance, as here, may be linked to further urban transformations, conflicts or reconstructions.
The location of the site is documented in the Merimée database, with an accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). No additional information is available on its architecture, its founders or the specific historical events that are taking place there. The 1991 classification aims to preserve the memory of this heritage, now communal property.
