Circular Fountain (Box K): Registration by Order of 10 December 1949

Origin and history

The circular fountain of Sospel is a historical monument located in the commune of Sospel, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes (06), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the 17th century, it is representative of the urban developments of that time, often related to the water supply and the beautification of cities.

Ranked among the Historical Monuments, this fountain was officially registered by decree on 10 December 1949. It is now owned by the municipality of Sospel. Its location, at 32 rue de la République, makes it a central element of the local heritage, although its precise location is judged to be fair (note of 5/10).

The 17th century circular fountains were often gathering points for the inhabitants, serving both as a source of drinking water and as a place of sociability. In the Alpes-Maritimes, these works also reflected the hydraulic techniques of the time and the importance attached to urban aesthetics in small Provençal towns.
