Origin and history
The bridge of La Raie des Moutelles is a stone work built in the first half of the 19th century in Crissey, Jura department. It spans the creek of the same name, a former bypass canal linked to the activity of a mill. Built by Muneret usinier, it is 17 meters long for 4.70 meters wide, with a structure in three arches forming a light donkey back. Its squared bellows and architectural style allow it to date precisely before the mid-19th century.
The bridge was listed as a historic monument by order of 17 July 2003, recognizing its heritage value. In 2016, degradation caused by the passage of agricultural machinery on its parapets prompted a study for its restoration. Owned by the municipality of Crissey, it illustrates local engineering related to the industrial and hydraulic activities of the period, as evidenced by its technical characteristics and its integration into the landscape.
The site is referenced in the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, with an approximate location at 16 Rue des Moutelles. Although its condition has required work, there remains a representative example of the rural bridges of the Jura, associated with the economic history of the region, especially around mills and factories. Its construction and materials reflect the craftsmanship of the pre-industrial period in Franche-Comté.
