Origin and history

La Pierre de Chantelove, also known as Pierre des Saints, is a coupule stone located in Lanslevillard, Savoie department. This prehistoric monument is distinguished by its characteristic engravings, typical of rock art. It is part of a wider set of archaeological sites distributed on the sides of the Great Black Rock, on a north-west / south-east axis.

The stone was classified as a historic monument by decree of 19 January 1911, recognizing its heritage value. It is located on the same axis as the majority of the rock engravings of the Great Black Rock, suggesting cultural or ritual continuity between these different sites. The precise location of the stone is indicated as being in Lanslevillard, with an accuracy considered satisfactory.

The Pierre de Chantelove is now owned by the municipality of Lanslevillard. Its classification among French historical monuments makes it a protected part of local and national heritage. It is also mentioned in specialized databases such as Mérimée, which lists historical monuments in France.
