Feudal motte and adjoining bass-court (Box ZD 47, 82): inscription by order of 3 July 1979

Origin and history

The feudal motte of Strazeele is a historical monument located in the commune of Strazeele, in the department of the North (59), in the Hauts-de-France region. This site, typical of medieval defensive constructions, is composed of a main motte and an adjoining lower yard. It illustrates the local feudal organization, where the lords controlled the surrounding territories thanks to these fortified structures, often accompanied by ditches and palissades.

The Strazeele mot was officially recognized for its heritage value, as evidenced by its registration in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 3 July 1979. This protection applies specifically to the moth and its lower yard, identified under cadastral plots ZD 47 and ZD 82. Although the available sources do not specify the details of its construction or its occupants, this type of monument played a central role in medieval life, serving as both a seigneurial residence, a place of refuge and a symbol of power in a rural context marked by agriculture and the bonds of vassality.
