Origin and history
The Tower of the Holy Spirit, located in Saint-Brieuc in the Côtes-d'Armor, is a 15th century building. It is attached to the mansion of Qui-Qu'en-Grogne, of which it was an addiction. This tower was initially used to house the archives of the lords who owned the mansion. Today, it is classified as a historical monument and belongs to the Côtes d'Armor Prefecture.
In 1592, during the League's troubles, the mansion of Qui-Qu'en-Grogne was looted, resulting in the destruction of the archives kept in the tower. This monument preserves two stone staircases, testimonies of its medieval architecture. Since 1905, the mansion has been occupied by the Departmental Directorate of Equipment (DDE), while the tower remains an emblematic vestige of that time.
The Tower of the Holy Spirit is located in the Place du Général de Gaulle, in the heart of Saint-Brieuc. It has been listed as historical monuments since 20 January 1926. Its architecture and history make it a notable heritage element of Brittany, linked to seigneurial history and religious conflicts of the late 16th century.
