Facades and roofs (Case D 507): inscription by order of 4 November 1983
Origin and history
La Tour de la Cure is a historical monument located in the municipality of Montvalezan, Savoie. Built in the 17th century, it represents an example of civil or religious architecture of this time in the French Alps. Its facades and roofs were protected by a registration order in 1983, highlighting its heritage importance.
In the 17th century, the Savoie region, then integrated into the Duchy of Savoie, was marked by a rural and mountain society. Constructions such as the Tower of Cure could serve as a residence for the local clergy, a defence point or a symbol of power in isolated villages. Their preservation today reflects the architectural and cultural heritage of these Alpine communities, often linked to agriculture, livestock and cross-border trade with neighbouring Italy or Switzerland.
