Origin and history
The Faffe Tower is a funerary tower built in the 4th quarter of the 19th century, located in the old cemetery of Fontenay-sur-Loeng (Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire region). This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, is distinguished by its architecture and its integration into the local memorial landscape. It is kept in full, as delimited by a protection order, and appears in the communal cadastre under the reference section AE, parcel 53.
The tower is owned by Fontenay-sur-Loeng, whose Insee code is 45148. Its approximate address, derived from GPS coordinates, is 24 Rue de l'Eglise, although the precise location is considered fair (note 5/10) according to available sources. No information is provided on its accessibility to the public, its possible functions (visit, rental) or its current use.
The registration of the Faffe Tower as a Historical Monument was formalized by a decree of 1 July 2025, marking its heritage recognition. Available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not mention any sponsor, architect or detailed historical context of its construction. Its name, Tour Faffe, could evoke a connection with a local family or a vernacular name, but there is no evidence to support it.
