Origin and history

The three tumulus of Trelan are an archaeological site located in the commune of Carnoët, in the department of Côtes-d'Armor, in Brittany. These funeral monuments date back to the Bronze Age, a period marked by the development of ritual practices and megalithic constructions. Their precise location is at the so-called place of Kernon, near La Garenne, and their presence bears witness to the former occupation of this territory.

The tumulus of Trelan were officially recognized for their heritage value and listed as historical monuments by an order dated 3 November 1971. This protection specifically covers the three tumulus, identified under Cadastral reference YC 1. Their preservation allows us to study the funeral customs and social organization of the populations of the Bronze Age in Brittany, a region rich in prehistoric remains.

The site is referenced in the Mérimée database, a documentary tool of the French Ministry of Culture, under the code Insee 22031 corresponding to the municipality of Carnoët. Although their GPS location is approximate, with an estimated accuracy of 5 on a scale of 10, these tumulus remain a significant example of Breton megalithic heritage. Their study contributes to a better understanding of the cultural and religious practices of the time.
