Origin and history
The tumuli-dolmens of Mont-de-Senne are megalithic remains located in the commune of Dezize-lès-Maranges, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. These funeral structures, composed of two tumuli-dolmens, have been protected as historical monuments since 2 March 1912. Their architecture includes dry stone chambers and orthostats, characteristic of neolithic constructions.
The Dolmen du Cul Blanc, one of the two monuments, retains its original tumulus. Its bedroom, measuring 3.46 m long by 1.27 m wide, is covered with a 0.75 m high stone table. The sides consist of orthostats and dry stone walls, illustrating the construction techniques of the era. These dolmens, also called tumuli-dolmens du Mont de Borgy, belong to the commune and are mentioned in archaeological studies since the end of the 19th century.
Historical research, including that of Henry of Longuy in 1883 and G. Variot in 1899, documented these megalithic sites. Their work, published in specialized bulletins, contributes to the understanding of these monuments and their regional context. Today, these tumuli-dolmens remain important testimonies of the megalithic heritage of Saône-et-Loire.
