Tumulus No. 10 (Case ZX 2a): entry by order of 12 May 1980

Origin and history

The tumulus number 10, located in Baccon in the Loiret department, is a monument dated to the Protohistory. This type of funeral structure bears witness to the burial and commemoration practices of the people of that time, often linked to elites or prominent social figures. The tumulus usually served as collective or individual burials, and their construction reflected a complex social organization, with a workforce capable of mobilizing significant resources for their construction.

The Protohistory in the Centre-Val de Loire region corresponds to a period of transition between the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, marked by intense cultural and commercial exchanges. Local communities lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and handicrafts, while developing networks of exchanges with other regions. The tumulus, like Baccon's, played a strong symbolic role, serving as landmarks in the landscape and as links between generations.

Their presence attests to a lasting human occupation and a desire to mark the territory in a lasting way.
