Tumulus de Colleredo (Case D 292): entry by order of 10 April 1969
Origin and history
Colleredo's tumulus, located in Saint-Gilles-Pligeaux in the Côtes-d的Armor, is a funerary monument dating from the Bronze Age. This type of structure, typical of protohistoric societies, was generally used as a collective burial or territorial marker. Its registration as a Historic Monument in 1969 underscores its archaeological and heritage importance, although its precise location remains approximate according to available data.
In the Bronze Age, Brittany was populated by agro-pastoral communities organized into clans or tribes. The tumulus, like Colleredo's, played a central role in funeral rites and collective memory. They often marked places of power or territories, reflecting a society where forefather worship and resource management were closely linked. These monuments, built with stones and earth, bear witness to a technical mastery and a complex social organisation for the time.
Colleredo's tumulus was officially recognized and protected by a registration order on 10 April 1969. This administrative measure aims to preserve the site of the degradations and to allow its study by archaeologists. Available data, from sources such as Monumentum, indicate a location deemed "a priori satisfactory", but without further precision on any associated excavations or discoveries. The site remains a representative example of Breton's megalithic heritage, although little documented in the accessible archives.
