Twin Crosses of Boullet (Box ZP 25): inscription by order of 19 July 1937

Origin and history

The Twin Crosses of Boullet, also called the Twin Crosses of Boullai, are located on the departmental road 3, in Baud in Morbihan. They are located on the right bottom side, 140 meters before a crossing towards the place called Boullai. Their name is directly linked to this neighbouring hamlet, highlighting a geographical and probably historical link with this territory.

These road crosses, carved in a block of monolithic granite, are fixed on a rectangular base also monolithic, partially buried in the ground. Their arms and drums have chamfers, characteristic of the medieval crosses. Their particularity lies in their paired arrangement on the same base, a rare example in the region. The drums appear slightly shortened, and the whole was refixed to its original base with cement, suggesting further interventions for their preservation.

The Boullet Twin Crosses were listed as historic monuments on July 19, 1937, recognizing their heritage value. Their present state, with a partially buried base and refixed elements, demonstrates both their seniority and their efforts to preserve them. Their location along a departmental road indicates that they probably marked a major road or crossroads in the Middle Ages, playing a role both religious and practical for local travellers or residents.
