Polissoirs (two), located in the canton of Sorel and the Dreux Forest, 1 km from the burnt farm: classification by decree of 21 November 1925

Origin and history

The two polishers of Abundant, classified as Historical Monument, date from Neolithic. They are located in the canton of Sorel, near the forest of Dreux, about 1 km from the farm called "burnt". Their official classification by decree of 21 November 1925 underlines their archaeological importance for the understanding of prehistoric artisanal practices in the region.

Their precise location, although documented (20 B Chemin des Polissoirs, Sorel-Moussel), remains approximate according to available sources, with a cartographic accuracy deemed "passable" (note 5/10). These polishers, tools used to sharpen or shape stones, illustrate the ingenuity of the local neolithic communities, whose activities focused on agriculture, breeding and stone carving.

The Centre-Val de Loire region, rich in prehistoric sites, is home to other similar remains. In the Neolithic era, these collective tools played a key role in everyday life, used to make utilitarian or ritual objects. Their preservation makes it possible today to study the technical and cultural exchanges between sedentary human groups of the period.
