Origin and history
The watch tower of Mormoiron, classified as a Historical Monument, is an architectural vestige of the 16th century. Located in the village of Mormoiron, in the department of Vaucluse (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), it reflects the defensive needs of the time. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 13 September 1988 underlines its heritage importance.
The tower, owned by the municipality, is located near the Place de la Mairie, according to data from the Merimée database. Although its state of conservation and terms of access (visit, rental) are not specified, its historical role in monitoring and protecting the village remains a key element of its identity. Available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected element of local heritage.
In the 16th century, watchtowers played a strategic role in Provencal villages, serving both as a monitoring post against external threats and as a symbol of local authority. Their construction often reflected the political or military tensions of the time, as well as the community organization around collective defence.
