15th century fortified gate: classification by decree of 20 December 1936

Origin and history

The fortified door of Trie-Château, located in the Oise department (60), is an emblematic 15th century monument. It bears witness to the defensive architecture of this period, marked by constructions designed to protect cities and villages from invasions or local conflicts. This type of building, often integrated with ramparts or town entrances, played a strategic role in regulating the flow of people and goods, while symbolizing the power and prosperity of the community.

In the Middle Ages, in the Hauts-de-France and elsewhere, the fortified gates were key elements of medieval urban planning. They were used not only for military purposes, but also to control trade and collect taxes, such as granting. Their presence reflected the economic or political importance of a locality.

In Trie-Château, this door, classified as a Historical Monument by decree in 1936, illustrates the architectural and historical heritage of Picardie, now integrated into the Hauts-de-France region. Its state of conservation and its current location, near the Rue Nationale, make it a heritage landmark still visible today.
