Origin and history

The Coubertin Foundation was founded in 1973 by Yvonne de Coubertin, a humanist, and Jean Bernard, artist and renovator of the French companionship. Their aim was to raise morally and culturally individuals attached to the quality of manual work. Jean Bernard deposited most of his father's work, sculptor Joseph Bernard, including 1,500 drawings and archives, as well as a collection of bronzes representing the French School of Sculpture, from Rude to Zadkine.

The site includes a Bronze Garden, where artists such as Abbal and Wlérick are exhibited, as well as a collection of sculptors' drawings, mostly those of Joseph Bernard. The Foundation also benefited from works by Antoine Bourdelle, from the Bourdelle Museum in Paris. This place offers a chronological panorama of French sculpture, from the late 19th century to the contemporary era, while highlighting direct sizes and rare pieces.

Associated with the Château de Coubertin, this artistic heritage is labeled Musée de France and is located in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse (Yvelines), although its historic address is often linked to Milon-la-Chapelle. The exact location remains approximate, with an accuracy assessed as fair according to available sources. The site offers an immersion in the heritage of French sculptors, thanks to major works and preserved archives.
