Archaeological vestiges (case A 548) : classification by decree of 26 August 1963
Origin and history
The archaeological remains of Champallement, located in the commune of the same name, date from the ancient period. These remains, although little documented in available sources, have been protected as a Historic Monument since a classification order in 1963. Their exact location is indicated as approximate, with an accuracy considered fair (note 5/10).
In antiquity, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, like other parts of Gaul, was marked by a varied human occupation, including rural settlements, channels of communication and places of worship. The archaeological remains of that time often bear witness to the daily life, trade or religious practices of local people. This type of site, though modest, contributes to the understanding of the territorial and social organization of the ancient period in this region.
The classification of the remains of Champallement in 1963 underlines their heritage importance, although the information available does not specify their exact nature (habitat, necropolis, public building, etc.). Their legal protection allows to preserve these physical traces for future studies. The administrative location of the site is clearly identified: commune of Champallement, in the department of Nièvre (code INSEE 58052), in the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
