Origin and history
Villa Clairbois, located in Rambouillet, Yvelines, is a major creation of architect Louis Quetelart, made in 1933. This monument perfectly illustrates the 'Touquettois Moderne' style, an architectural current that Quetelart has helped to popularize, especially at Touquet. The villa is distinguished by its two gables oriented towards the garden, a characteristic characteristic of the residences of this time in this region. Its interior spaces, such as the en-lined reception rooms leading to the garden and the water mirror, reflect a search for harmony between architecture and nature.
The owner of the villa, Jean Savard, was the head of Bijoux Fix. This project is in line with the large houses of the 1930s, marked by their breadth and elegance. The architectural details, such as the large windows of the dining room, the three poles of the covered patio, and the horizontal lines highlighted by carpentry, balconies, and terraces, reinforce the modern aesthetics of the whole. The polychromy, obtained through the green carpentry, brown tiles and bricks of the chimneys, adds a distinctive touch to this realization.
Villa Clairbois, listed as a Historic Monument in 2018, includes protected elements such as facades, roofs, terrace, patio, as well as the garden with its Chinese pagoda and bench. These features are a valuable testimony to 1930s' residential architecture, mixing modern influences and exotic touches. The exact address of the villa is 112 rue du Vieil-Orne in Rambouillet, in the department of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region.
