Origin and history

Villa des Brises is an iconic house on the island of La Réunion, located at 96 Maxime-Payet Street in Petite-Île. Built in the 19th century, it embodies the Creole architecture of this period, marked by the influence of settlers and local traditions. Its inscription as a historic monument in 2015 underscores its heritage value, both for its style and for its role in island history.

The villa now houses an antenna of the Réunion National Park, which strengthens its anchoring in the preservation of the island's natural and cultural heritage. Protected elements include not only the main building, but also the surrounding agricultural remains, reflecting the historical importance of agriculture in this region. Its location in Petite-Île, a commune in the south of the island, makes it a witness to the socio-economic evolution of Reunion.

Classified by ministerial decree, the Brises villa is an example of integral conservation, including its grounds and outbuildings. The accuracy of its location (noted as "passible" in databases) and its visibility via tools such as Merimée or Google Street View facilitate its access to the public. Its current status, between built heritage and space dedicated to environmental management, illustrates La Réunion's cultural and ecological duality.
