Origin and history
The Villa des Iles is an Art Nouveau style residence built in 1906 in Vicq-sur-Gartempe, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its name is inspired by the nearby Gartempe Islands. The first plans were designed by architect Ferron, but Milord completed the project and supervised the construction. Although the floor plan remained true to Ferron's original design, the facades, bays and roofs were completely redesigned, incorporating distinctive decorative elements.
The facades of the villa are distinguished by their staples carved at the top of the arches, their polychrome windows and doors, and their ceramic decorations with floral motifs. The Mansart roof, covered with slate, and the terrace framed with stone balusters add to its elegance. The entrance garden, lined with wrought iron grids, completes this architectural ensemble. Around 1910, outbuildings were built on the other side of the street, in a holiday style, adapted here to a rural setting.
The villa and its outbuildings, as well as the plots of the garden with their fence walls, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 15 December 2010. This classification recognizes the heritage value of this building, a witness to the seaside architecture transposed into the countryside in the early 20th century.
