Origin and history
The Villa du Buquet, located in Elbeuf, Normandy, is a Gallo-Roman archaeological site discovered in 1981 during subdivision works. Occupied between the first and fourth centuries, it has a typical architecture with a double gallery, revealing the importance of Roman rural settlements in this region.
The villa was registered as historical monuments by order of 26 December 1984. In 2017, work was carried out to develop the site, which was inaugurated at the European Heritage Days. These interventions were aimed at preserving and making accessible this ancient heritage.
The site, also known as the Val-Caron villa, illustrates the Roman occupation in the Seine-Maritime. Its inscription in the Merimée base and its precise location (246 Allée de la Maison Romaine) make it a key testimony of local history, linked to the agricultural and social dynamics of the Gallo-Roman era.
