Villa, as well as the building of the garden, the gate and the gate (Box AD 3401) : inscription by decree of 6 June 1988

Origin and history

Villa Fock-Yee is a remarkable house on Réunion Island, located at 41 rue La Bourdonnais, in downtown Saint-Denis. Built between the 18th and 19th centuries, it illustrates the Creole architecture typical of this period, marked by European and local influences. Its addition to the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments on June 6, 1988 reflects its heritage value, particularly for its style and conservation status.

The official protection concerns not only the villa itself, but also related elements such as the pavement of the garden, the gate and the gate. These architectural details reflect the way of life of the wealthy owners of Saint-Denis at that time, where urban homes combined comfort and social representation. The villa is part of a historical context in which La Réunion, then French colony, saw the development of a local bourgeoisie, often derived from trade or land ownership.

Today, the Fock-Yee villa remains an emblematic example of the built heritage of Saint-Denis. Its exact address, referenced in the Merimée database under the code Insee 97411, makes it a point of interest for studies on the Réunion architecture. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its classification makes it a preserved place, representative of the urban history of the island.
