Origin and history

Villa Giraudon, located in Clermont-Ferrand, is a historic monument built between 1899 and 1900 by architect Louis Jarrier. This building illustrates a fusion between auvergne neo-Romanesque inspiration and art nouveau elements, notably through the use of bypassed arches. Its architectural details, such as chip modillons, billet cords or pentagonal lintels, reflect a tribute to local Romanesque traditions while integrating stylistic innovations of the time.

The building is distinguished by typical features of auvergnate Romanesque architecture, such as the alveolate apparatus above the bays or arching ressaults linking the tower to elevations. These elements, combined with a neat ornamentation, give the villa a strong visual identity. The villa was listed as historic monuments by order of 5 February 2004, recognizing its heritage value and architectural originality.

The location of the villa, at 27 avenue d'Italie in Clermont-Ferrand, is documented in the Mérimée base, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate address nearby (5 rue d-Amboise). This gap highlights the challenges of geographical data accuracy for certain monuments. The villa remains a remarkable testimony of the architectural eclecticism of the late 19th century in Auvergne, mixing medieval heritage and modernity.
