Horace Pouillet - Architect
Designer of Glenwood and Karidja villas.
Origin and history
The Glenwood villa is an iconic villa located in Touquet-Paris-Plage, Pas-de-Calais department. Built in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century, it is adjoining and symmetrical with the villa Karidja, forming a coherent architectural ensemble. These two villas were built in 1927 on the plans of the architect Horace Pouillet, for two sisters. Their design reflects a modern approach, notably through the treatment of chimneys, symmetry and orientations of facades.
The facades and roofs of Glenwood Villa were listed as historic monuments on December 1, 1997. This recognition highlights the originality of Puillet's work, which combines a personal architectural expression with a reflection on volumes and structural elements. The villa is located at 114 avenue de la Reine-Victoria, in a residential area of the Touquet-Paris-Plage.
The Glenwood villa, with its twin Karidja, illustrates the evolution of seaside architecture in the early 20th century. These constructions bear witness to the influence of modern currents on the secondary residences of the Opal coast, while maintaining a unique identity thanks to the daring style of their architect. Their symmetry and integration into the urban landscape make them an important example of local heritage.
