Origin and history
Villa Jeannette is a house built in 1907 in Nantes, 98 boulevard des Anglais, in the Breil-Barberie district. It was designed by architects Ferdinand Ménard and Émile Le Bot for photographer Georges Morinet. Its architecture combines neo-gothic elements (dissymetry, overflowing gables, stair turret) and Art Nouveau influences, visible in the gazebo and plant or animal sculptures.
The villa is inspired by beach resort villas, including those in La Baule, with picturesque details such as polychromy of materials, balconies and bowl-window. Its decor, marked by Art Nouveau, makes it a unique example in the region, although comparable to contemporary villas in Nancy. It was listed as a historical monument on May 4, 2017 and labeled "Twentieth Century Heritage".
The project was initiated in 1902 by Georges Morinet and his wife, who acquired plots to build their residence. The architects, then associated for projects at La Baule, incorporated constructive elements typical of the secondary residences of the period, while adding a distinctive Art Nouveau ornamentation. The villa is now protected for its facades, roofs, gate, gate and fence wall.
