Origin and history

Villa Richond, located in Charentus in the commune of Coubon (Haute-Loire), is a marina built in the first half of the 19th century. In 1844, commissioned by architect Louis Moiselet, it adopted a neoclassical style inspired by neopalladian architecture. Its massé plan, covered in terrace, has a symmetrical facade with a central forebody decorated with superimposed columns and a triangular pediment. The interiors retain their original decor, including fireplaces, wallpapers, parquet floors and stuccos, while the surrounding park is the work of landscape designer Gabriel Luizet, known for his classified achievements.

The monument has been classified as historical monuments since 27 September 2006, thus protecting the entire villa, its interiors, its communes, as well as the park with its remarkable elements (pigeon, basins, terraces and fence). This classification underlines the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its landscape integration, typical of the 19th century bourgeois residences in Auvergne.

The Richond family, originally from Puy-en-Velay, is associated with this villa. Among its members, Benoît Félix Richond (1795–73), a Parisian watchmaker, and Louis Richond des Brus (1798–56), mayor of Puy and deputy of Haute-Loire, illustrate the local influence of this lineage. Although the villa is not explicitly linked to a specific family member in the sources, its name evokes their heritage in the region.
