Origin and history

Villa Solange, located in Clermont-Ferrand, was built in the 1st quarter of the 20th century by architect Jarrier. This monument illustrates a fusion between the seaside and Art Nouveau styles, characteristic of bourgeois architecture of the time. The facade is distinguished by the use of irregular stones, embellished with two brick arches framing a carved terracotta plate. The tympanum of the front door, in curved carpentry, clearly evokes the Art Nouveau influence.

The first floor of the villa features a coated facade decorated with trompe l'oeil wood panels and varnished tiles, adding to the originality of the ensemble. These decorative elements reflect the diversity of materials and forms employed, typical of bourgeois constructions of the early twentieth century. The villa was classified as Historic Monument by order of 1 June 2012, including the plot supporting it, thus highlighting its heritage value.

At that time, Clermont-Ferrand, located in Auvergne, was a city in full industrial and cultural expansion. The bourgeois villas, like Villa Solange, symbolized the social status of their owners and reflected the innovative architectural trends of the time. These residences were often designed to combine modern comfort and artistic aesthetics, marking a period of transition between traditional styles and avant-garde movements such as Art Nouveau.
