Origin and history
Villa Van Dyck, located at 9 rue Hubert-Colombier in Vichy (Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is part of a real estate complex designed between 1897 and 1900 by Hubert Colombier, a local banker and batonier. This project included a main villa, Villa Jurietti, as well as several rental villas of various styles, including Villa Van Dyck, originally named Villa Flamande. Its architecture is characterized by a pediment gignon chantourné, a skylight in spur and a rich model, evoking the Flemish style.
Hubert Colombier, Vichy's influential figure, had a private road sanded and closed by a chain to connect these villas. Villa Van Dyck, with its protected facades and roofs, was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 2 May 1988. His architect, Percilly, contributed to his distinctive design, reflecting the opulence of the Vichyssian thermal era.
The ensemble fits into the urban context of Vichy at the Belle Époque, where the bourgeoisie invested in secondary or rental residences to enjoy thermal cures. The villa thus illustrates the mix of architectural influences and the economic dynamism of the city, linked to its status as a popular spa.
