Origin and history

La Voie Aurélienne de Maussane-les-Alpilles is a road vestige located in the municipality of the same name, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This monument, classified as a Roman way, bears witness to the importance of transport infrastructure in ancient times, although its exact period of construction or use is not specified in the available sources. The Roman ways, like that of Maussane-les-Alpilles, played a central role in the organization of the territories conquered by Rome.

They facilitated trade, military travel and cultural dissemination. In the Alps and in Provence, these roads often linked towns, villages and agricultural areas, thus contributing to the economic and social structure of the regions crossed. Their route, often straight, reflected the advanced civil engineering techniques of the Romans.
