Manoir (Case ZL 33): entry by order of 13 June 1995
Origin and history
Giverdy Manor House is a 15th-century building located in the commune of Sainte-Marie, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. This monument, listed in the Historical Monuments Inventory since 1995, illustrates the civil architecture of this period. Its inscription specifically concerns the manor itself, identified under the reference cadastrale ZL 33.
The location of the mansion, although specified by an address (2 Chemin du Manoir, 58330 Sainte-Marie), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note of 5/10 according to the Merimée base). This type of building, typical of Burgundy countryside, often reflects the social status of its owners, probably linked to the local nobility or to an affluent bourgeoisie.
The 15th century in Burgundy-Franche-Comté corresponds to a period of transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, marked by a rural economy and buildings dedicated to housing as well as to the demonstration of power. The manor houses, like Giverdy's, served as secondary or principal residences for local elites, while playing a role in the agricultural and social organization of the surrounding territories.
