Origin and history
The Clacquesin family, active in alcohol production since 1775, is one of the oldest industrial companies in Malakoff. In 1880 Paul Clacquesin, a herbalist, invented an award-winning hygienic tar at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. This success led to the transfer of the Parisian factory to Malakoff in 1903, where a bichrome brick industrial hotel was built to house production.
In 1926, the architect Guillemin proposed an expansion project including metal halls for new tanks, bottling and storage spaces. The work ended in 1931 with the addition of a second chimney in the courtyard. The halls, illuminated by lanterns, illustrate the modern industrial architecture of the time.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 2009, the Clacquesin plant is today a rare testimony to the industrial history of the Hauts-de-Seine. Its architecture, combining bricks and metal structures, reflects the technical innovations of the first third of the twentieth century. The property now belongs to a private company, preserving this emblematic Malakoff heritage.
