Origin and history

The castle of Joulet, located on Rue de Foulet in Yzeure (Allier), is a 17th-century building of which today only remains a characteristic tower. This architectural vestige is distinguished by its red and black brick fittings, arranged in diamond, a decorative technique typical of the modern era. The tower, the only protected part, bears witness to the historic significance of the site, although its detailed history and former owners remain poorly documented.

Ranked a historic monument by decree of 28 June 1929, the castle of Joulet illustrates the Bourbon heritage of the Allier. Its inscription in the inventory of historical monuments highlights its architectural value, especially for its brick masonry, a material frequent in the region in the seventeenth century. The exact location at 4 rue de Foulet and its Insee code (03321) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Yzeure, close to Moulins, the former capital of the Dukes of Bourbon.

Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) mention little information about its original use or its occupants. The tower, now isolated, may have been part of a larger residential or defensive complex, reflecting local constructive practices. There is no information on whether the site is open to the public or reassigned to contemporary use.
