Origin and history
The former Boulenger tile factory, located in Auneuil, Oise, is a testimony of the regional ceramic industry. This site, whose protected features include buildings, fireplaces and water castles, was partially listed as a Historic Monument in 2020. Its architecture reflects tile production techniques, typical of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The manufacture is part of an industrial context marked by the production of construction materials. In Auneuil, as in other municipalities in Picardie, ceramic activities played a major economic role, providing local jobs and contributing to the growth of surrounding cities. These sites, often linked to natural resources (clay, water), were pillars of community life.
Today, the site is partly communal and private property. Its 2020 registration aims to preserve iconic elements such as chimneys, facades and hydraulic infrastructure. The museum of architectural and industrial ceramics, associated with the place, values this technical and artistic heritage, although the modalities of opening to the public are not specified.
