Origin and history
Brigonnet House is a house located at 103 rue de Belfort in Besançon, Doubs department. Built in 1909 by the entrepreneur Francis Brigonnet for his mother, she follows the plans of the bisontin architect Auguste Vieille. This building illustrates the architectural style of the early twentieth century, with Art Nouveau influences visible in its decorative details, including its stained glass windows.
The stained glass windows of the house, decorated with floral motifs, are the work of master glassmaker Eugene-Alphonse Gorgeon, a renowned local craftsman. The property, including the house, garden and fence walls, was listed as historic monuments on 24 May 1994. It also benefits from the "Twentieth Century Heritage" label, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, highlighting its heritage importance.
The Brigonnet House bears witness to the rise of bourgeois domestic architecture in Besançon in the early 20th century. Its inscription as a historic monument and its label reflect the desire to preserve a representative heritage of this time, marked by artistic innovation and attention to detail, as evidenced by the stained glass windows signed Gorgeon.
