Origin and history

The citadel of Minerve, located in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region, is a 13th-century historical monument. It embodies a major architectural testimony of the medieval period, marked by conflicts related to the Cathar epic. Its remains, including fortifications and the castle, were protected by an order in 2011, highlighting their heritage importance.

The fortifications of the citadel, partially preserved, cover a set of communal and private plots. Their location, although documented (6 Rue des Martyrs, Minerve), remains approximate according to available sources, with a cartographic accuracy considered fair (note 5/10). This site, linked to the municipality of Minerve (code Insee 34158), reflects the strategic and religious issues of the time.

Classified as a Historical Monument, the citadel is associated with the memory of the Cathar martyrs, although the source text does not specify specific events or characters. Its inscription in 2011 concerns the entire remains, attesting to their historical and cultural value. The property is shared between the municipality and private actors, without a clear indication of its current accessibility (visits, accommodation).
