Origin and history

The Château d'Orfeuilette, located in Albaret-Sainte-Marie en Lozère, is a neo-Renaissance building built in the 19th century. Originally a simple hunting relay, it was acquired by Dr. Théophile Roussel, MP and Senator of the Lozère, who began his transformation into a majestic castle. The work, spread over fifteen years, ended in 1875, making this place an exceptional residence where Roussel lived until his death in 1903.

When he disappeared, Théophile Roussel bequeathed the castle to his granddaughter, who became a nun and handed it to his convent. For much of the twentieth century, the estate became a place of recollection and pilgrimage for the sisters of France, while gradually evolving towards a hotel vocation. In the 1980s, the General Council of the Lozère bought the castle to exploit its tourist potential, marking the beginning of its conversion into a hotel establishment.

In 2009, the Brunel partners acquired the business fund of the hotel-restaurant, then managed by the Sacré-Coeur hotel school. After major renovations, the castle reopened in July 2010 as a 4-star hotel, offering 18 rooms, seven of which are listed in the annex "L Today, part of the outbuildings also houses an ISEM branch (Université Montpellier 1), dedicated to training in management, hospitality and tourism.

The castle is located in a 12-hectare park in the heart of the natural region of the Margeride. Its strategic location, close to the A75 motorway and cities like Clermont-Ferrand or Montpellier, makes it a popular destination. Accessible by departmental road 4, it enjoys a advantageous geographical location, between preserved nature and major communication axes.
