Origin and history

The château de Brogieux is a building located in the commune of Roiffieux, in the department of Ardèche. Although its exact construction period is not specified, it is identified as a strong house, typical of the defensive and residential constructions of the area. This type of monument was often associated with an agricultural or landscaped domain, reflecting the way of life and social organization of local elites throughout the centuries.

Available sources mention that the castle is surrounded by remarkable gardens, evoked in local studies such as the Cahiers de Mémoire d'Ardèche and Temps Présent. These gardens, as well as the architecture of the castle, bear witness to the evolution of landscaped spaces in Ardèche, especially between the Renaissance and the contemporary era. The Brogieux estate thus illustrates the importance of large rural areas in regional history, combining residential, agricultural and aesthetic functions.
