Origin and history

The Château de Baconaille, also known as the Château de La Baconnaille, is located in the commune of Auriat, in the Creuse department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This monument, dated from the 18th century, retains a partially visible architecture from the public road, including its chapel, distinct from the main house body. A "L"-shaped agricultural complex completes the structure, highlighting its integration into a wider area.

The information available about this castle remains scarce. Private and still inhabited property, it has only been the subject of few studies or accessible publications. Its spatial organization, with a separate chapel and an adjoining farm, suggests a vocation both residential and agricultural, typical of the rural estates of this time in Limousin.

The chapel, which can be seen from the rural road of Sauviat, is one of the few architectural elements mentioned. No source, however, details its history, stylistic characteristics or past use. The castle itself, although classified among the castles of Creuse and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, does not appear in historical accounts or detailed archives, limiting the understanding of its role or transformations over the centuries.
