Origin and history
The castle of Serans, located in the commune of the same name in the Hauts-de-France region, is a monument whose construction spans centuries. The first architectural traces date back to the 1620s, with the construction of the farm house of the farmer, the dovecote and the agricultural outbuildings in rubble. These elements, as well as the late 17th century stone portal, reflect an ancient occupation and a structured agricultural activity around the estate.
The present 18th-century castle was actually built in the second half of the 19th century, illustrating a major reconstruction or transformation of the site. This mix of styles reflects the architectural changes and functional needs of successive owners. The whole, including the farm, the southern pavilion, the terrace and its facilities (horseshoe staircase, fountain, basins and greenhouses), was inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 31 October 1997, highlighting its heritage interest.
The property, now owned by a private company, retains elements characteristic of seigneurial estates and then bourgeois: an organized farm, buildings of representation (castle and pavilion), and landscaped spaces (terrace, basins). These components reveal a desire to combine agricultural utility and architectural prestige, typical of the large rural properties of the 17th–12th centuries in Picardia.
The precise address of the castle, 60 Grande Rue in Serans (Oise), as well as its Insee code (60614) place it in a territory marked by rural history and the transformations linked to the modernization of the countryside. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), makes it possible to envisage a more in-depth visit or study of this still unknown heritage.
