Origin and history

Buzareingues Castle is an emblematic building located in the municipality of Buzeins, Aveyron, in the Occitanie region. Located 3 kilometres east of the village, it overlooks a gorge that descends to Cornuejouls and the valley of Aveyron. This strategic positioning makes it a natural point of control over local access, typical of medieval castles in the region.

The history of the castle is marked by conflicts and changes of hands. In 1372 he was taken by the English from Figeac, illustrating the tensions of the Hundred Years War in southwestern France. Later, in 1586, a group of Huguenots led by the captains Seguin and Aubin de Marvejols took over. The latter left him only in exchange for a ransom of ECU 350, reflecting the religious struggles of the religious wars.

From the 18th century, the castle passed into the hands of the Girou family, before being passed on in the 20th century to the Bedel Girou family of Buzareingues. These family successions underline its anchor in the local aristocracy and its role as noble residence throughout the centuries. Today, there remains an architectural and historical testimony of the former Rouergue, linked to figures like Charles and Louis Girou de Buzareingues.
