Origin and history

Ravenel Castle is a building located in the town of Ravenel, in the department of Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although its exact period of construction is not specified, its documented history dates back to at least the sixteenth century, where it was linked to local aristocratic families. The domain has traversed centuries by changing hands several times, reflecting the social and political changes in the region.

In the 16th century, the seigneury of Ravenel belonged to the family of Ravenel, before passing into the hands of the family of Guillebon. In 1750, the estate was acquired by Mr.Bouchart, who quickly sold it to the Prondre de Guermantes family. During the French Revolution, Miss du Trousset d'Héricourt d'Obsonville temporarily owned it, although the details of that period remained unclear. The castle then changed hands by marriage alliances and hereditary transmissions.

In the 19th century, the castle was passed on to Emma Louise Josephine Prondre, wife of Count Joseph Marie Scipion de Chazelles, and then to their daughter, married in 1855 to Edmond Regensburg, a notable figure as receiver general of finances and mayor of Ravenel. The Regensburg family kept the castle until 1969, marking the end of a long line of aristocratic and bourgeois owners. The garden of the estate was also recognized as remarkable, highlighting its heritage importance.

Today, Ravenel Castle bears witness to local history through its successions of owners and architecture, although precise details of its construction or transformations remain partially documented. Its inscription in the landscape of the Hauts-de-France makes it a key part of the heritage of the Oise, alongside other castles in the region.
