Origin and history

The Château du Beau-Chêne is a monument located in the commune of Quessoy in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. This castle is distinguished by its H-shaped architecture, with a main body of three spans framed with two side pavilions slightly protruding. The back façade, overlooking the garden, is equipped with a glass gallery, while the elevations are in coated masonry, with brick bay frames and stone-cut corner chains. The building includes a basement floor, a raised ground floor, a square floor and a high floor.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle of Beau-Chêne belonged to the Countess of Quilio. This information is one of the few precise historical elements available regarding this monument. The castle is listed in the Mérimée base of the Ministry of Culture under notice IA22005267, which attests to its heritage interest.

The castle is part of the architectural landscape of the Côtes-d'Armor, a region marked by rich history and varied constructions, ranging from manor houses to castles. Although little is known about its specific history, its style and structure reflect the local influences and constructive practices of the time it was built or modified.
