Origin and history
The Double Castle, located in the town of Lens-Lestang (Drôme), is a monument whose architectural origins extend from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. This castle is distinguished by its protected interior elements, including rooms adorned with gypseries, a vestibule, a large living room and a chapel, classified by ministerial decree in 1978. These sets, typical of the aristocratic residences of the period, reflect the influence of artistic styles in vogue between classicism and the beginning of romanticism.
The facades and roofs of the castle, as well as other spaces such as a small dining room and rooms with decorated fireplaces, were also listed as Historic Monuments in the same year. The precise address, 310 Chemin du Double, and its administrative connection to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (formerly Rhône-Alpes) confirm its anchoring in the local heritage. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), its protected status underscores its historical and cultural importance.
The location of the castle, reported with satisfactory accuracy (level 7/10), and the associated photographic credits (Creative Commons licence) show a documentary and tourist interest. However, the available data from the Merimée database and Monumentum do not mention original sponsors or significant events related to this site, focusing on its architectural features and heritage protection.
