Origin and history

The Château Giscours is a wine estate in the Médoc, located in Labarde en Gironde, covering 300 hectares of which 95 are dedicated to the vineyard. Ranked third grand cru in the 1855 classification, its history dates back to the 14th century, but its official sales act dates back to 1552. At the Revolution, he was confiscated as a national property after the emigration of his owner, the Duke of Saint-Simon.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Marc Promis enlarged the estate and built the current castle, including stables, presses and cellars. In 1847, banker Jean-Pierre Pescatore modernized the buildings. In 1875 Édouard Cruse had the park built by Eugène Bülher and added a model farm, the "Farm Suzanne".

The 20th century saw several changes of owners, including Nicolas Tari in 1952, which modernized the operation. In 1995, a scandal broke out after vintage fraud, resulting in restructuring and ISO 9002 certification in 2001. The castle and its park are listed as historical monuments in 2011. In 2023, the Albada Jelgersma family purchased the land, reuniting the estate.

The vineyard, composed mainly of cabernet-sauvignon and merlot, produces a wine raised 16 to 18 months in barrels. The estate also includes a second wine, "La Sirène de Giscours", and a rosé. Its history reflects the technical and economic developments of Bordeaux.
