Origin and history
The Chapel Saint-Sébastien of Ricey-Haut is a religious building located in the Riceys, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. Dating mainly from the 16th century, it was built in a historical context marked by the Renaissance, period of artistic and architectural renewal in France. Its designation as historic monuments in 1980 reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this local heritage.
Chapels like that of Saint Sebastian played a central role in the life of the rural communities of the time. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, strengthening social and religious ties. In the region of Champagne, where the Aube is located, agriculture, especially viticulture, was a major economic activity, and these buildings often reflected the prosperity and beliefs of local people.
