Origin and history

The remains of the Château de Levroux, located in the municipality of the same name in the region Centre-Val de Loire, date mainly from the 15th and 16th centuries. This historic monument now consists of three towers forming the former entrance of the castle, as well as a western interior facade. The latter presents a 15th century door, topped by a 16th century cartridge decorated with a double-armed shield, reflecting the architectural and symbolic evolutions of this period.

The castle was partially protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments on 14 March 1927, specifically covering its remains. Although information on its exact use or historical occupants is lacking in the available sources, its architecture suggests a defensive and residential role typical of the castles of that time. The preserved elements, such as towers and adorned door, illustrate the construction techniques and power marks of the local lords.

The location of the site, at approximately 5482 Avenue du Vieux Château in Levroux (code INSEE 36093), places this monument in the department of Indre, in the heart of a region marked by a rich medieval heritage. The GPS coordinates and the accuracy of the location (noted as "a priori satisfactory") allow to identify its location in the current urban fabric, although details of its accessibility or contemporary use (visits, events) are not specified in the sources consulted.
