Famille de Geoffre de Chabrignac - Owner and sponsor Built the castle between 1770 and 1780.

Origin and history

The castle of Serre-de-Parc is a building built between 1770 and 1780 on the municipalities of Savasse and Montélimar, in the department of Drôme. It was built from an old strong house by the family of Geoffre de Chabrignac, also owner of the Château des Roches. This ambitious project originally included a terraced park, a French-style garden and orchards, reflecting the aesthetic tastes and agricultural practices of the time.

The interior of the castle is distinguished by a large gallery decorated with gypseries, illustrating various themes such as gardening, hunting, arts and science. These sets reflect the interests of the provincial aristocracy in the 18th century, mixing utility and refinement. The domain, marked by this duality between practical function and artistic ambition, was classified as historical monuments on 30 May 1997, after a first partial inscription on 31 July 1989.

The family of Geoffre de Chabrignac, at the origin of this achievement, embodies the example of a local noble lineage invested in the beautification of its architectural heritage. The castle of Serre-de-Parc is thus part of the landscape of the seigneurial residences of the Drôme, where the medieval heritage (the initial strong house) coexists with the innovations of the Enlightenment. Its ranking underlines its historical and artistic importance in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
