Origin and history
Lamourette's dovecote, located in Marsac, Occitanie, is a monument whose construction spanned between the 16th and 17th centuries. Its architectural characteristics reflect a stylistic transition: the stone skylights, decorated with ground pediments and pinacles, evoke the end of the Renaissance, while the mulched cornice announces the classical era. These details, combined with a flat tile cover typical of regional pigeons, underline its local anchoring and its utilitarian role in pigeon rearing, symbol of social status in modern times.
The structure consists of a dovecote tower, probably dated from the seventeenth century, topped by a campanile or arrow, a recurrent element in the rural architecture of the region. The entrance of the pigeons, located between the main cover and the campanile, illustrates a functional design adapted to its use. The adjoining house, now denatured, suggests a seigneurial or agricultural origin, although the sources do not specify its sponsor. The monument was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 2 April 1979, thus protecting its dovecote (part ZD 6).
The location of the dovecote, at approximately 5015 Lamourette, 82120 Marsac, in the Tarn-et-Garonne, places this monument in a territory marked by rural history and preserved vernacular architecture. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), allowing clear identification in the landscape. Although information on its accessibility (visits, accommodation) is lacking, its registration as a Historical Monument makes it a protected heritage, representative of the agricultural and symbolic constructions of the Old Regime in Occitania.
